
CS2 Glossary: In-Game Terms
In Counter-Strike 2, fast and effective communication is essential for defeating your opponents. Sharing information clearly and concisely increases your chances of gaining an advantage. Today, we'll go over the most important basic terms.
General Terminology
In Counter-Strike 2, besides gameplay mechanics, there are also terms and abbreviations that you need to know and understand during the game. Official terms often have shorter names that every player should know!
Launcher - Steam itself. It is used to launch the game and the necessary programs;
Config - A file used to configure game settings. It usually contains all the settings needed for a comfortable gaming experience. The file can be saved to a separate hard drive or USB flash drive and brought to a gaming club for LAN events;
Console - An alternative tool for configuring the game using special commands;
Cheat - Cheating and gaining an advantage over other players using third-party software. Cheats are prohibited by the game rules, and using them can result in a VAC ban;
VAC - An anti-cheat system developed by Valve. It detects cheaters in the game and helps maintain a fair gaming environment. Once a VAC ban is issued, it cannot be removed;
Valve - Our favorite company that created Steam and CS2;
Cooldown - A temporary restriction preventing you from searching for a competitive match;
Skin - An in-game item that serves as a cosmetic finish for a weapon;
Case - A container that randomly gives you one of the available skins. You need to purchase a key to open a case.

Gameplay Terms
CS2 has developed its own common slang that players use to communicate and share information quickly. Here are some of the most important terms used during gameplay:
Match / Game - A competitive match in CS2;
AFK - Away From Keyboard. Means that the player's character has remained at the computer while the person has stepped away to do something in real life;
GLHF - Good Luck, Have Fun. A phrase meaning "good luck and have fun";
GGWP - Good Game, Well Played. Usually said at the end of a match, after a victory or defeat, to acknowledge a well-played game and congratulate the winners;
EZ - An abbreviation meaning "easy." Usually used to taunt opponents and provoke them;
Smurf - A second account belonging to a more experienced player who plays against weaker opponents;
TK - Team Kill. Killing one of your teammates (usually punished with a ban after three kills);
Silvers - The lowest ranks in the game. Usually refers to players with low skill levels.
There are actually many more CS2 terms, but we have tried to include only the most essential ones. We will gradually add more useful CS2 terminology.
In-Game Terms
Now let's move on to terms related directly to the gameplay and what happens during a match.
Terrorists / Ts - The Terrorist team;
Counter-Terrorists / CTs - The Counter-Terrorist team;
Teamplay - Understanding between players, team coordination, and synergy between individual players;
AWPer - A sniper player who can be on either your team or the enemy team;
Boost - Gaining a higher rank with the help of a more experienced player;
Buy Round / Full Buy - A round in which players spend most or all of their available money on weapons, armor, and grenades;
Clutch - A situation where a player is left alone against the enemy team and attempts to win the round for their team;
Drop - When a teammate asks another player to buy and give them a weapon because they don't have enough money;
Eco Round / Eco - A round where players try to save as much money as possible. It is used to accumulate enough money for a full buy in a future round;
Fake - A deceptive maneuver designed to confuse or mislead the opponents;
Force Buy - A risky round where players spend most or all of their remaining money to try to take control of the game;
Full Buy - A round where players fully equip themselves with a primary weapon, grenades, a defuse kit, armor, and other necessary equipment;
Frag - Eliminating an opponent;
Arcade - An aggressive style of play focused on constant attacks;
Rush - A fast attack toward one of the bombsites on the map;
Default - A calm or defensive style of play;
Fragger - A player who focuses on getting as many kills as possible, usually with less emphasis on teamplay;
Camper / Rat - A player who constantly hides in certain positions on the map to get easy kills;
Save - Keeping a weapon at the end of a round for future rounds instead of spending money on a new one;
Lag - Technical problems or network issues that interfere with smooth gameplay.
Now you can easily understand your teammates during a match.
Weapons in CS2
There are also shortened names for weapons in CS2 that are worth knowing.
AK / Kalash - AK-47;
M4 / Emka - M4A1-S or M4A4;
AWP / AWPer - AWP;
Scout - SSG 08;
Flash / Flashbang - A flashbang grenade;
Smoke / Smokes - A smoke grenade;
HE / HE Grenade - A high-explosive grenade;
Kit / Defuse Kit - A defuse kit used by the CT team to defuse the bomb.
These are some of the most important weapon-related terms in CS2 that you should know!
Shooting Techniques in CS2
There are several different shooting techniques in CS2, so below we'll briefly explain the most common ones.
Spray / Spray Control - Continuous fire without releasing the mouse button;
Tap / Tapping - Firing a single bullet at a time;
Burst / Burst Fire - Firing 2-3 bullets in quick succession;
Prefire - Shooting before seeing the opponent, usually when swinging around a corner or anticipating an enemy's position;
Fast Zoom - Taking a shot immediately after quickly activating the scope;
Scope / Zoom - The aiming system used by sniper rifles;
NoZoom / NoScope - Firing a sniper rifle without using its scope.
