CS2 Map Pool: All Tournament Maps, Premier, and Competitive Mode

The current CS2 map pool in Premier and Active Duty consists of seven maps: Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, and Nuke. The latest rotation took place on July 8, 2026, with the start of Premier Season 5: Cache replaced Overpass. This map pool is used in the main ranked mode and serves as the foundation of the competitive scene.

The concept of a “map pool” is broader than just one list. In regular Competitive, players can select specific maps, including reserve maps and temporary community locations. FACEIT has its own queue, while Wingman and Arms Race have separate sets of arenas. Therefore, the answer to the question “What maps are currently available in CS2?” depends on the game mode.

What Is the Map Pool in CS2?

The map pool, or simply “map pool,” is the set of maps available in a specific game mode, match, or tournament. The term is used in three main contexts:

  • Official map pool — maps that Valve has included in a specific game mode.
  • Tournament map pool — maps allowed under the rules of a particular competition.
  • Team or player map pool — maps where a roster has prepared positions, utility, and strategies and can consistently perform.

Most often, the term “CS2 map pool” refers to the Active Duty pool — the seven competitive maps used in Premier. The name Active Duty can be understood as the “active pool.” These seven maps are used during the veto process, where teams remove maps until one remains for a BO1 match or the required set of maps is selected for a BO3 or BO5 series.

A map does not automatically disappear from the game after being removed from Active Duty. It can remain available in Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, Wingman, the Workshop, or on community servers. Overpass, Train, and Vertigo are not part of Premier, but they are still available in other official queues.

Current CS2 Map Pool in 2026

The current Premier map pool has been in effect since July 8, 2026. Valve launched Premier Season Five, added Cache to the Active Duty pool, and removed Overpass. The number of maps remained unchanged at seven.

Ancient (de_ancient) is part of the Active Duty pool. Its main characteristics are mid control and short rotations. Start by learning B-site smokes, mid control, and Donut.

Anubis (de_anubis) is part of the Active Duty pool. It features open bombsites, water, and flexible split attacks. Start by learning mid, water, connector, and B Main entries.

Cache (de_cache) is part of the Active Duty pool. It has a straightforward three-lane layout with an important mid area. Start by learning the connector smoke, Highway, Z, and A/B site entries.

Dust II (de_dust2) is part of the Active Duty pool. It features long sightlines and straightforward routes. Start by learning Long, Short, Mid Doors, and the tunnels.

Inferno (de_inferno) is part of the Active Duty pool. It has tight corridors where utility is especially valuable. Start by learning Banana, Apartments, Mid, and retakes.

Mirage (de_mirage) is part of the Active Duty pool. It offers a variety of split attacks through the center of the map. Start by learning Window, Connector, Short, and the three basic A-site smokes.

Nuke (de_nuke) is part of the Active Duty pool. Its defining features are two levels and fast vertical rotations. Start by learning Outside, Ramp, Vents, and how to read sound cues between floors.

The lineup is confirmed by Valve’s official “Season 5, Armory, and More” update. If the list in your client looks different, check whether the game is fully updated: older articles and saved screenshots often show Overpass or Train instead of Cache.

How Active Duty, Premier, and Competitive Differ

Active Duty, Premier, and Competitive are related, but they are not interchangeable terms. Active Duty is the seven-map pool selected by Valve. Premier is a ranked mode that uses these seven maps and selects the map through the veto process. Competitive is a separate mode where players choose maps manually and have a separate skill group for each map.

In Premier, teams use a veto to choose from the seven Active Duty maps, while in Competitive, players select the maps they want to play in advance. Premier has seven available maps from the Active Duty pool, while Competitive offers a broader selection of 15 maps, including reserve and community-rotation maps. Premier uses an overall CS Rating, whereas Competitive has a separate skill group for each map. The main purpose of Premier is to provide a competitive experience across the current map pool, while Competitive is better suited to practicing a specific map or playing a particular game mode. Hostage maps such as Office, Italy, and Assault are available in Competitive but not in Premier.

The term “competitive map pool” also depends on the context. When talking about the professional scene, it usually refers to Active Duty. In the game menu, however, “Competitive” refers to the Competitive mode and its broader map selection. To avoid confusion, use specific terms such as “Premier map pool,” “Competitive map pool,” or “FACEIT map pool.”

All Maps in the CS2 Premier Map Pool

Ancient

Ancient is built around mid control, Donut, and fast rotations between the bombsites. B Site has many tight angles, so successful attacks rely on well-timed Molotovs, flashes, and trading the first player. On A, controlling Temple and Donut is crucial; otherwise, the defense has several convenient options for retakes. The map suits teams that prefer to methodically take space and play around their utility.

Anubis

Anubis connects the bombsites through Mid, Water, and Connector. The attacking side can change its approach late into the round, while the defense has to constantly gather information. B Main and Water play a major role in many B-site rounds; when attacking A, Heaven, Temple, and Connector are key areas. For beginners, it is enough to learn the main routes, basic smokes, and safe rotation paths.

Cache

Cache returned to the Active Duty pool in summer 2026. The map has a straightforward layout: A Site, a central lane, and B Site, but its simple geometry does not make it easy to play. Controlling Mid opens up Highway toward A and Z toward B, so a team without central control can quickly become predictable. To get started, learn the smokes for Cross, Z, and CT, Molotovs for Forklift and Headshot, as well as the callouts for the updated version of the map.

Dust II

Dust II is easier to read on the radar than most maps: Long and Short lead to A, while Tunnels and Mid provide access to B. Its simple layout puts a greater emphasis on aim, timing, and trading. At the same time, it is a map with dangerous long sightlines for the AWP. Players should learn the fast Long take, the route through Lower Dark, the B split through Mid Doors, and safe smokes for Xbox, CT, and A Cross.

Inferno

Inferno rewards strong control of space. Teams spend utility on Banana within the first few seconds, and losing Banana makes defending B and rotating much more difficult. The A and B sites are connected by routes through Mid, Short, Long, and Apartments, so the defense needs to quickly read how many opponents are committing to each area. The map is great for developing teamwork, but it is difficult to win consistently without a solid understanding of utility.

Mirage

Mirage remains one of the most-played maps in Premier. According to Leetify data from August 2026, it accounted for 24.31% of recorded Premier matches across all regions. Controlling Mid opens up Connector, Short, and Window, while three standard smokes can block key positions during an A-site execute. Because the map is so popular, opponents are familiar with the standard utility setups, so mechanics alone are not enough at higher ratings.

Nuke

Nuke has a unique vertical layout: A Site is located on the upper level, while B Site is directly below it. The same sound cue can refer to different floors, so players often add “Upper” or “Lower” to the position callout. Controlling Outside allows the T side to reach Secret, Ramp leads to the lower level, and Vents provide quick movement between floors. Nuke requires the most disciplined communication of all seven maps.

April 2024: Dust II was added to the Active Duty pool, replacing Overpass. Dust II returned to the first Active Duty pool of the CS2 era.

January 2025: Train was added to the Active Duty pool, replacing Vertigo. The updated version of Train joined the competitive seven-map pool.

July 2025: Overpass was added to the Active Duty pool, replacing Anubis. Overpass returned after being absent from the pool.

January 2026: Anubis was added to the Active Duty pool, replacing Train. This marked the start of Premier Season Four.

July 8, 2026: Cache was added to the Active Duty pool, replacing Overpass. This marked the start of Premier Season Five.

Cache was added to the official game modes before entering Premier. On April 28, 2026, it was added to Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Retakes, giving players time to test the map in regular matches. In the summer, Valve moved Cache into the Active Duty pool while keeping Overpass in the broader Competitive pool.

When preparing for a tournament, keep the transition period in mind. Premier receives its new seven-map pool with the seasonal update, but a third-party league may finish its current stage using the previous map pool. The rules of the specific competition take priority over the general map pool.

All CS2 Maps by Game Mode

As of September 3, 2026, the official maps are distributed across several queues. Community maps rotate more frequently than the main seven, so it is worth checking the game menu after each update.

Premier / Active Duty includes Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, and Nuke. These seven maps use a team-based pick/ban system and share a single CS Rating.

Competitive - Active Duty maps includes Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, and Nuke. Players can select specific maps they want to play.

Competitive - Reserve includes Overpass, Train, Vertigo, Office, and Italy. This category includes former Active Duty maps and hostage maps.

Competitive - Community maps includes Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter. These maps are part of the temporary official rotation.

Wingman includes Inferno, Nuke, Overpass, Vertigo, Debris, and El Dorado. It is a 2v2 format with one bombsite, while Debris and El Dorado are separate rotation maps.

Arms Race includes Baggage, Shoots, and Pool Day. These are compact maps designed for the Arms Race game mode.

Reserve Pool

The reserve pool includes maps that are available in matchmaking but are not currently part of Premier. Overpass, Train, and Vertigo were previously in the Active Duty pool and may return after the next rotation. Office and Italy use the hostage rescue scenario, so they are not part of the competitive bomb-plant map pool.

In Conclusion

The current CS2 Premier map pool consists of Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, and Nuke. The biggest change in 2026 was the return of Cache, replacing Overpass. The standard Competitive mode has a broader selection, including former Active Duty maps, hostage maps, and a temporary community map rotation.

For consistent performance, prepare at least four maps, keep one as your permanent ban, and bring the others up to a solid baseline. Knowing the callouts without knowing the utility is not enough, just as memorizing smokes without understanding rotations won’t replace proper preparation. A strong personal map pool is built around roles, communication, utility, and regularly reviewing your own matches.
